On Hopes, Dreams & Resolutions

The stroke of midnight on December 31 is a time of celebration. It is that oh-so-special moment when one is magically able to wipe the slate clean and begin again.

Making resolutions to change or alter behaviours that for whatever reasons did not work during the past twelve months is as mandatory as champagne. This year I plan to indulge in a glass or two of the bubbly, but I'll shy away from those pesky resolutions.

The main reason being that 2016 was a year of significant change. Events and revelations, both close to home, on a professional level and in the world at large hit hard. Some still seem incredible. Unimaginable. Even unfathomable. I often find myself wondering how and why these things happened. What is this world coming to?

Coping with this brave new world has not been easy. Yet during the final four months of this year I've made notable and significant life changes. I find myself more at peace today than yesterday and feel confident this will continue throughout 2017.

What made the difference between success and failure was the acceptance, appreciation and respect for what I can control and what is beyond my reach.

Based on this surprisingly simple yet complex principle peace of mind and quiet fulfillment has replaced the need for professional achievement. Health and wellbeing now outperforms and outshines financial gain. Activities I once assumed would remain a constant until I take my last breath are no longer priorities. In short this is my new beginning. My brave new world. And if I dare be totally honest, I have to say it feels very good indeed! This state of robust wholeness is a thrilling new chapter of my life.

My New Year's resolution is to live each day to the fullest. To make each second count and live life with no regrets. If that means being online less and focusing on loved ones more so be it. If that means travelling more and gaining new experiences along the way so be it. If that means leaving certain individuals behind and replacing them with new acquaintances so be it. The bottom line is I plan to be present in 2017. 😀

Whatever your plans, whatever your dreams, goals and aspirations for 2017 I wish you every success.

Happy New Year!

Free is Good - Right?

Have you noticed the latest marketing advice aimed at writers? Experts are promoting the concept of offering free books to gain readership. In theory it sounds good - even logical when one considers how authors gained readers in the past.

A Writer's Anniversary

Today is an anniversary of sorts. It's been six years since I became a published author. During the past 2190+ days I've experienced a number of exciting firsts and achievements. I've made connections with wonderful people and made online friends who have enhanced my life.

At the opposite end of the spectrum I've weathered a number of storms. One in particular (think hurricane rather than downpour) nearly broke my spirit and resolve and if not for a supportive and select group of authors in the same predicament I may not have survived at all.
